Cipher's strategy is to search, develop and harvest.
Business model
We
search for known molecules that have an established safety and efficacy record, thus reducing the risk of regulatory approval. These molecules are matched with novel drug delivery technologies to form new proprietary formulations that offer advantages to patients.
We develop products through the clinical and regulatory stages using a flexible resource model. In-licensing known molecules results in an abbreviated regulatory path and lower costs. Drawing on the internal expertise and experience we have gained through the development of multiple products, we craft the clinical and regulatory strategies and manage these processes while incorporating technical experts to consult on portions of our plan at critical periods.
Finally, we harvest the rewards by generating royalty streams from commercial partnerships with established sales and marketing franchises. Our internal business development experience enables us to identify, negotiate and finalize out-licensing agreements with international partners.
Core capabilities
In the world of pharmaceuticals there are gaps between what is available and what is ideal. Improving drugs is the focus of our work. We have a well-defined search process to identify products to in-license. Our experience in navigating the clinical and regulatory pathways for multiple products proves we can successfully develop products through to a commercial stage. Our business model allows us to harvest the royalty streams from products without incurring the high capital and operating costs associated with product manufacturing, sales and marketing.
Reformulation growth opportunity
Drug reformulation is a large and growing opportunity. In 2007, 70% of the New Drug Applications (NDAs) approved by the U.S. FDA were reformulations. With heightened concern from regulators related to the safety of new products, the cost and time to develop a new chemical entity has increased. Reformulations have lower regulatory risk and allow pharmaceutical companies to extend the lifecycle of a drug, resulting in a greater return on their investment.
